Resources -> Writing Workshops in Italy

Wanted: writers looking for inspiration.

You'll find it in Italy.

Look out a window from an apartment in Rome, or enjoy sweeping vistas from your doorstep in the Tuscany countryside, and you'll see why writing workshops are so popular throughout Italy.

Workshops in poetry, playwriting, fiction and non-fiction writing can easily be included in any trip to Italy, typically combining work & pleasure in cultural tours, special readings, and expert writing courses - with plenty of time left over to experience & fully enjoy Italy like any tourist.

Practical travel tips

With any package you may be considering, begin by researching the particulars, and then match your temperament to the course. The romance of a writing workshop in eternal Italy may be what initially fires your interest in a writing course tour. But will it be intensive enough for your goals & interests? Too intensive?

Some tours include readings of Italian classics or poetry, a lecture by a famous guest writer... and then it's off to visiting places of literary interest related to the course. Some other tours may include hours of classes and follow-up assignments, or a combination of serious literary effort, and fun.

Also find out about accommodations and amenities included in the tour. Most writers today don't leave home without their laptops, so if an Internet connection is important to you make sure you have access to one (you'll have better luck in the city, although the Italian countryside is now becoming increasingly wired.)

Packages also let writers pick their own accommodations. If so, ask about discounts you might receive as a member of the group. Round out your enquiries with questions on cancellations policies, airport transfers, meals, or any other extras which may be included.

Once you've done your homework, relax. And dream of the country that has been inspiring poets, writers, playwrights & screenwriters for centuries.

Bona fortuna!
